Two days ago Darrell's brother, Dan, and nieces surprised him by coming into the Bay Area to see him off today. Along with other family from Sacramento came to show their support. It has been a full house & full of LOTS of love!!
Yesterday was a long day full of loading up the trailer, doing errands and making sure we have them stocked with food. Darrell was finally able to sit down have a cigar, a scotch & a few laughs at 11:30 pm... It was a very special evening last night as we were gathered by nieces, brother Dan, and our daughter - with a prayer of blessing lead by Bree.
So 5 am came early this morning with excitment & nerves!! We all met at Station 2 in Santa Clara & was in awe of the love & support from family, friends & co-workers. KPIX showed up to do an interview & we should see something in the local news tonight. CBS has called & hoping to meet up with them in Sausalito this afternoon as well as KRON TV.
There were fellow firefighters, friends & our sister, Cheryl, that headed out at 7 am this morinng to start this journey.
We will be posting more information today & photos as we complete day 1. If we also get some newsclips those will be posted as well.
Our faithful driver, Fred, was excited to get going as well since the past few days he has been waking up in the middle of the night thinking of all the "little" details for this trip...
If you think about it & have time in the next 40 days send Darrell & Dave a text to continue encouraging them.
What a great start today! So looking forward to following your journey! Love you and keep safe!
ReplyDeleteWe are on the road to Florence, Oregon. Great night in Tomales with Marin Cal Fire. They treated us well and we slept even better. We loved the route for the first day. Dave asked at one point if I wanted a photo with the coast in the back round. I told it would't do it justice and that view was for us to experience. Plus we were on our 3rd climb for the second half of the ride. We were surprised in Sausalito with Marin Fire waiting to greet us when we came in. Thanks Craig!
ReplyDeleteAs fate would have it, we met a family visiting from Chicago and they said they heard about us and will be meeting us in Iowa and leading us into Chicago and hosting us. Small world! Thank you Chicago Fire!!!
Please keep us in your prayers as we ride and for our family. We will be taking a small detour to Boise for a funeral for a very special Aunt who passed Away. Margie the Matriarch, for the family, passed away and we will be attending the funeral. No worries though as Idaho is on our route and we won't miss a mile.
So glad that you are being taken care of! Thank you to everyone who is hosting and welcoming these guys - you are there when we cannot me. You support is amazing! And take a few photos...you will want them later=)
